THE state's biggest environmental festival will launch in Willunga this weekend.
The inaugural Green Light Festival, presented by not-for-profit and volunteer-run EC Festivals, aims to raise awareness and educate the southern community about ways to incorporate innovative, ethical and sustainable practices into everyday living.
Festival organiser Christina Dawson, of Port Willunga, hoped the festival would help show people how easy sustainable living was.
"The festival was started to showcase and celebrate environmentally conscious and ethical organisations and show people how they too can look after the environment," Mrs Dawson said.
The festival will feature more than 50 stalls with information and products on building, health, gardening, farming, lifestyle, fashion and food, Mrs Dawson said the festival had something for everyone.
"The festival is part of a worldwide movement of networking, educating and sharing ideas and practices of living on our planet using sustainable principles," she said. "It's about living more lightly on earth.''
"While the challenge presented by climate change and the broader sustainability debate can feel overwhelming, there are many simple steps we can take as individuals."
Mrs Dawson hoped the festival would turn into an annual event that attracted people from across the state.
"Since moving to the south I have been inspired by the pride and passion of our local community," she said.
"I have been especially heartened by the number of organisations and individuals who have jumped at the opportunity to get involved and help out with the festival."
The Green Light Festival is at the Willunga Recreation Park, Aldinga Rd, Willunga, on
Saturday from 9.30am.
